CROWLEY DISASTER ASSISTANCE
2-1-1 for Southeast Colorado phone service is providing the Crowley County area with information, referrals and assistance to individuals, and other help related to the Town of Ordway wildfires, including how and where to volunteer and make donations.
 
"2-1-1 is here to help especially in times of disaster such as this fire in Ordway in Crowley County. Individuals in Crowley County have received referrals for assistance, and people outside of the County are volunteering services, donations of household items and money, by calling 2-1-1," stated Pat Gash director for 2-1-1 for Southeast Colorado. "In the past 48 hours the 2-1-1 for Southeast Colorado call volume has exceeded 300 calls from people requesting referrals, and those offering assistance.  Callers affected by this disaster can still call 2-1-1 or 1-800-762-6169 or 719-583-6611, or those who wish to make donations."
211 is the free, easy to remember phone number that connects people with an information and referral specialist, who will assess their needs and put them in touch with the community services available to meet those needs.  It also offers opportunities to volunteer and make donations.
Individuals can call either 2-1-1 or 1-800-762-6169 or 719-583-6611 to reach this free assistance service.

2-1-1 for Southeast Colorado Celebrates
Achieving Goal of Phone Service
in All 11 Counties
 
Ivan Widom, Chair of the 2-1-1 for Southeast Colorado Council announced on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at a 2:00 p.m. press conference and celebration held at SRDA in Pueblo, that all 11 counties in our region, known as Region 7 of Colorado, have the important 2-1-1 phone service available.  All 275,000 residents now have access to the service. 
 
2-1-1 service has been gradually implemented over the past  18 months in Baca, Bent, Crowley, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Kiowa, Las Animas, Otero, Prowers and Pueblo Counties. 
 
Every County has representation on the 2-1-1 Council, which provides guidance for the service.  County Commissioners in all eleven counties have endorsed it.
 
The Senior Resource Development Agency (SRDA) in Pueblo provides 2-1-1 service for the region, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Pat Gash is the 2-1-1 Director.
 
2-1-1 is a free, easy to remember phone number that anyone can call to reach a person trained to help them assess their needs and put them in touch with the community services available to meet those needs.
 
It also reduces calls to inappropriate agencies and organizations, helping them save time and money, while preventing caller frustration and congestion on 9-1-1.
 
By dialing 2-1-1, individuals can also find opportunities to volunteer or make donations.

Reaches New High In 2007

Activity in the 2-1-1 for Southeast Colorado Information, Referral & Assistance Center, which serves eleven counties in Southeast Colorado, reached new highs in 2007.  Their Annual Report shows that 2-1-1 phone service in 2007 was up 53% over 2006, and more than double 2005.

Nearly 7,000 Calls were handled in 2007, which was an average of 580 per month and 28 per day.  That was a 53% increase over 2006 and 135% over 2005.

80% of the calls were from Low Income individuals in 2007, and the number of calls from Low Income individuals increased 79% over 2006 and 213% over 2005.

31% of the calls were from Minority individuals in 2007, and the number of calls from Minority individuals increased 27% over 2006 and 127% over 2005.

44% of the calls were from Seniors in 2007, and the number of calls from Seniors increased 4% over 2006 and 55% over 2005.

Callers most frequently sought Information and Referrals for Medicare help, insurance counseling, health services, financial assistance, income tax assistance, food requests, housing help, family services, victim services, senior services and school supplies.
